I'm Back!!

Ok, back to this blogging thing. Life has flown by this last year. SO many firsts without Mom and then the one year anniversary of her passing. I have tried to help my Dad as much as possible. He seems to be the same. My uncle passed away two weeks short of the one year anniversary of my Mom passing. Between work, schooling the kids, my Dad and just life in general, I am just trying to stay afloat like everyone else.

I have tried to take advantage of my Bible app on my phone. I found out that it has devotionals. I have finished a few and have about 5 others going right now. It doesn't take a lot of time to do and I try to do it in the morning before I even get out of bed. Something is better than nothing.

Yesterday, two of my clients and I had such a great and uplifting conversation about God and worry. It was so good for all of us to share with each other. I think about the circumstances that brought me to work out of the house....it is definitely one of those situations where the Devil meant for harm and God turned it round for good. The conversation that took place yesterday would not have been a possibility at a salon. I hope people can be encouraged here while getting their hair coiffed. Hence the title of this blog. It is not about the hair at all. This is my ministry and my battlefield. It is amazing how God can use you if you are only willing. He uses me most when I don't feel like it.

I want to share something later about forgiveness.....

So, I am addicted to the Pioneer Woman's website.  And now I am checking out the other sites that she recommends. This internet is a VORTEX!! I need to pull myself away.  The house needs to be cleaned.  I know the dust and dirt can wait until next week but that is what I said last week.  Thanks goodness the kids clean the bathrooms or we would be swimming in our own ____! (What movie is that line from?)

I took in an old gold bracelet to the jeweler today and cashed it in.  It was from an old boyfriend and I NEVER wore it.  I am not particularly found of gold jewelry.  Don't mean to offend any of you who do.  I just think silver is must more shiney and prettier.  Must be the Indian in me.  Not real fond of turquoise though.  Anyhoooooo, I got quite a pretty penny for it.  At least something good came out of that old relationship.  So as they say, "Easy come. easy go".....it went.  Right after we got home form the jeweler.  Got online and ordered the fifth grade curriculum for my fifth grader.  Well at least I can't miss the money, I didn't have it long enough.  Would have liked to use some of it though.  Joann's has embroidery thread for 50% off.  I want to start playing around with Mom's machine.  My summer is slipping away form me and all the "fun" projects that I wanted to do  have not been accomplished.  I have exactly four weeks until vacation, which means I have only six short weeks until home schooling starts again.

Ok, the house is not got any cleaner.......

Ok Pioneer Girl, you have my attention.  The meat balls were a huge hit with my hubby.  The potatoes were awesome too and the pineapple upside down cake was scrumptious.  I converted everything I needed to and they all turned out great. Now off to watch a little TV.
Boy, I have not been on here in a long time. A lot has happened in my life since the last time I posted. My Mom passed away in April, the night before Easter. I don't really feel like writing about all of that right now, maybe later. My good friends' husband is dying of cancer right now. It brings everything to the forefront of my mind again. Luckily, she lives right across the street from me so I can go over and make her laugh anytime of the day.
So, I am inspired to blog again, after reading The Pioneer Lady Cooks. I love this girl......she cracks me up. I told my hunkie hubby this morning, " Maybe I will start blogging again and post my recipes and maybe someday I'll be on the Today show and The View." I started throwing around the idea of writing my own cookbook too. I get tired of having to alter every recipe I try. I did not see one cookbook at Borders yesterday that focused on Whole Wheat dough or Rapadura sugar. I can't believe that most of the recipes I find still call for SHORTENING!!!!! So maybe in ALL my spare time, I will write a cookbook.
Today, I am making a Pineapple Upside Down Cake for the first time. How hard can it be......It's mostly butter and sugar, even if it flops it will still taste good. Butter and chocolate, dip anything in either one and I'll eat it! So I am off to the store AGAIN. I forgot to buy butter. I hope to post a pic of my cake soon. Ciao for now.

So, my Mom's cancer is back. They have been trying some kind of injections but found out yesterday that they are not working. The oncologist said last week that he didn't think Mom could handle the chemo but now he says the need to do it. She will start radiation and chemo after Christmas.

I love the smell of turkey in my house. It makes it smell like a home. While I was working out this morning I thought to myself, "It's just Mom and Dad coming over." And I realized I need to treat them like they are first time guests in my house. It should be a big deal when they come over just like it would be if it was someone else. We all deserve to put out the pretty dishes and the fancy glasses, what good are they sitting in the cabinet collecting dust? Why wait for a special occasion and then think that it is too much work to wash and dry them for the special occasion? The kids love it when the table is all pretty. So I am treating my whole family like they are special guests in my home. Because they are. I hope they will always be at my table or at least all of us will be at a table together for many years to come. I know some will not be here forever and their empty chairs will be filled with new members of the family. Today I am thankful for my friends and family and all the blessings the Lord has given me. I am also thankful for seasons in my life. Thankful for the seasons I enjoy and thankful that the seasons that I don't enjoy are only a season and will not last.

God is so good. He ALWAYS provides. He also surprises me. I guess that verse is right about His thoughts being higher than my thoughts and His ways higher than my ways. He never ceases to AMAZE me. I think I finally understand what faiths means to me. It's not about me trying to be good enough for Him to love me and forgive me. He loves me just the way I am-flaws and all.
